On 1 April 2025, the FLOW project will host a full-day, in-person hackathon at DTU Risø Campus in Roskilde, Denmark. The event will bringing together developers from companies and universities to collaborate for a focused day of collaborative technical work aimed at wind energy model chain development and validation.
Themed “Testing Integrated Model-Chains for Large-Scale Validation of Flow Models on Proprietary Wind Farm Datasets”, the hackathon focused on the validation of pre- and post-construction AEP (Annual Energy Production) modelling strategies. Participants will work hands-on with data from the Twin Groves Wind Farm, along with datasets provided by project partners Vestas and Siemens Gamesa.
Throughout the day, participants will explore Tools such as FLOW’s WIFA tool, and WindIO data schemas will be used to refine validation strategies and drive innovation in wind resource assessment and wind farm performance analysis.
The hackathon agenda includes interactive sessions, collaborative hacking, and open discussions—culminating in presentations of early results, insights, and proposed next steps. While the FLOW team facilitates the event setup and tools, participants are encouraged to bring their own datasets and model configurations, fostering a shared learning environment and open innovation.

Stay tuned for more updates and outcomes from the FLOW project as we continue to drive innovation in wind farm modelling and validation.
